The Role:

At Allstate our Software Engineering teams are developing the next generation of technologies that will drive competitive strategy. At the forefront of our product transformations the Lead Software Engineer drives design and delivery efforts in a key functional area. In this role you will collaborate across disciplines to deliver high-quality high-performing software products. You will use your analytical skills to realize and evolve technical approaches to problem solving as the business and computing landscape changes.

We are looking for highly motivated Lead Software Engineers to join the Product Solutions team in a fast-paced Agile environment. As a part of our team you will design and build software solutions while promoting best practices and optimization mentor junior Engineers in a culture of continuous learning and drive innovation by consistently looking for improvement opportunities in the code base and processes. A successful candidate is someone who enjoys solving complex problems collaborates well in a team environment and effectively balances delivery of team commitments with team cohesion and professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work in a self-directed and self-managed manner
  • Learn the business domain and produce holistic solutions to business problems
  • Drive critical phases of Software Engineering work from inception and throughout the CI/CD lifecycle
  • Evaluate and make sound technical decisions across multiple problem dimensions and articulate decisions throughout the evaluation process
  • Promote principles of key areas of concern such as availability scalability maintainability and security
  • Actively engage in code reviews with an emphasis on education to improve software quality
  • Challenge approaches make reasonable compromises and recommend solutions to address shortcomings
  • Actively engage in team ceremonies including Daily Standup Sprint Planning Backlog Refinement and Retrospective

Job Qualifications:

  • A college degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or STEM field with a strong understanding of Software Engineering fundamentals
  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience in structured team settings
  • Strong development skills in Java and similar OOP languages along with Spring and databases (Relational and NoSQL)
  • Strong understanding of design patterns data structures data persistence software and object-oriented design principles
  • Experience with API and schema versioning techniques
  • Experience working with DevOps tools such as Gradle and Jenkins
  • Experience working with Apache Kafka and Avro
  • Experience working with containerized technologies such Tanzu Application Service (formerly PCF) Docker and Kubernetes
  • Proven ability to quickly evaluate and learn unfamiliar processes and tools
  • Solid understanding of Agile development principles

Compensation offered for this role is $80500.00-$140000.00 per year and is based on experience and qualifications.
