Job Responsibilities : Group Director, Retail Channel Strategy and Execution

The Coca-Cola Retail Channel team supports NAOU’s overall objectives by building and executing a unique and differentiated commercial plan for each of our retail channels of business; focused on creating value propositions. The Group Director Retail Channel Strategy and Execution will lead a team of professionals focused on delivering the annual commercial plan across their channels. This includes a holistic and ‘consumer centric’ approach to the business across all routes to market and throughout the full North American Operating Unit (U.S. and Canada). This team will develop the plans by channel pulling together enablers from across the company’s SME’s (i.e. Brand RGM Category Leadership innovation etc.) all with the intent to drive the commercial objectives of growth across Revenue Profit Volume Transactions Share and SOVI .

This lead will define capacity for the team’s work to ensure the highest leverage initiatives products programming and supporting tools are built into channel plans. Reporting into the Group Director will be Channel Directors and Senior Managers.

Note – the strong preference is for this individual to be based in Atlanta GA but we are open to exploring the possibility that the role be worked remotely from outside of the Atlanta-area as well

Annual Commercial Planning:

  • Synthesize and communicate impactful macro trend (Channel Category Brand and Competitive) and System insights to influence long and short-term business plans designed to drive SOVI growth total beverage incidence and trip conversion.

  • Collaborates with broader Commercial Marketing Customer and Franchise teams to develop scalable retail solutions to commercialize strategic brand initiatives and secure priority POI’s

  • Develop customer facing imperatives and utilize supporting tools to assist in commercialization/sell-in of strategic brand initiatives and key Points of Inspiration.


  • Provide strategic and commercial guidance to assist in development of PicOS by channel by month by POI. Steward PicOS with Marketing/Franchise/Zone teams on a monthly basis to identify gaps opportunities and needed commercial modifications.

  • Work with broader Commercial/Franchise/Bottler teams to align on Market Street Challenge Priorities/Questions to track as part of the annual competition.


  • 10-15 years CPG experience preferably with background/experience within Retail and/or in a Commercial or Customer Marketing role in other industries/channels.

  • BA/BS MBA or other advanced degree preferred

Job Activities

  • Recruit and develop world class talent to become the next generation of strategic leaders within the Coca-Cola System.

  • Provide direct reports with leadership direction and coaching to achieve work objectives and improve performance and skills. Efficiently align agile resources to manage channel planning and executional needs

  • Ensures alignment of plan to Commercial Leadership priorities working closely with BPSC and CCLT representatives to advance key portions of the plan through the Bottling System

  • Enable work efforts of his/her team to ensure integration and completion of work against expectations (includes eliminating barriers identifying capability building opportunities best practice sharing etc.).

  • Coach and supervise his/her team by offering approaches to be considered and following up to ensure timeliness and quality of execution vs. expectations.

  • Provide experiences recognition rewards and resources that are focused on the development and motivation of individuals as well as the team as a whole.

  • Lead System communications that steward Retail strategies programs and annual plans

Technical/Functional Skills:

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to listen and empathize in order to effectively collaborate with breadth of stakeholders.

  • Strong oral and written communication.

  • Effective at delivering data/fact-based persuasive story telling

  • Elevated EQ/Diplomacy to enable navigating broad system stakeholders

System Financial Awareness:

  • Conceptual understanding of how company bottlers and customers make money

  • Experience in leveraging commercial levers (pricing marketing shelving promotion etc.) to drive a business plan

Analytics & Insights:

  • Trend Analysis: Knowledge of and ability to gather interpret and apply multiple consumer/industry insights and trends used in the development of channel strategies and programs.

  • Syndicated Sources: Knowledge of syndicated sources (e.g. AC Nielsen IRI CCT+ Home Scan) used in the analysis of trended consumer and volume dynamics.

  • Retail Industry: Knowledge of the retail industry (e.g. retailers competitors trends visual merchandising general business environment) related to multiple channels of distribution.


  • Marketing Concepts: Knowledge of and ability to apply basic marketing concepts (e.g. brand positioning brand architecture SWOT Analysis competitive assessment marketing objectives/strategies consumer segmentation) to guide the development of business plans for the respective channels.

  • Marketing Tools/Information: Knowledge of and ability to use marketing tools/information to identify and define consumer/marketplace opportunities.

  • Brand Marketing Strategy: Knowledge of information used to define brand strategic corridors and develop appropriate business solutions for channel activation.
