Battery Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. Our team works with engineering groups across various disciplines requiring strong communication skills and a team-first mentality. You will work alongside seasoned industry experts high aptitude recent graduates and people from every stage in between. We look for anyone with an exceptional ability to solve problems in both individual and team settings This position will focus on determining the root cause of degradation mechanisms found in lithium ion cells to optimize long term cell performance. The candidate will be responsible for implementing existing techniques developing new techniques and analyzing test data to rapidly characterize fresh and aged batteries.

What You’ll Do

Responsibilities Contribute to our efforts to better understand lithium ion battery performance and degradation Be a key member of a cross functional team to help determine the ideal cell chemistry and design of our future products Develop electrochemical/chemical tests to analyze battery materials or parameters refine cell degradation analysis and improve cell modeling Work with air-sensitive materials using a glove box and/or in a dry room Interpret and quantify degradation modes of various battery chemistries Explore the relationship between manufacturing process and cell performance

What You’ll Bring

Requirements Hand-on laboratory experience either through an internship or academic research Familiar with degradation mechanisms of batteries and battery materials Some coding experience preferred (i.e. MATLAB Python and/or similar data analysis tool) Familiar with chemical analysis techniques for battery materials Ability to learn new concepts and methods propose design of experiments and execute independently
